Our story
When the GDPR was introduced in Europe in 2018, I already suspected that it would change a lot. When the first “cookie banners” appeared, I became worried: Is this what the Internet should look like in the future? “There has to be a better way!” I thought to myself and started researching.
A year and a half later, I had a working tracking system that complied with data protection regulations and could be used without a consent request. What was initially only used by the company I co-founded, everysize, then met with more and more interest and finally became Anogate.
Funded and awarded by a german federal ministry
Anogate is the result of research work that was funded as part of the research grant and awarded the BSFZ Seal 2021 by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
The project was originally carried out at everysize, a price comparison site for shoes that I co-founded, and originally aimed to develop a GDPR-compliant alternative to Google Analytics. Due to the positive results and the great interest shown by friendly companies, Anogate 2024 was spun off.
Our principles
1. Data is not a product
Data represents people and you don't sell people either!
2. We live "Privacy by Design" and "Privacy by Default".
This means that we sometimes have to take the slower or more arduous route.
3. If everyone says that something is not possible, don't just believe it, but question it.
If the answer is not meaningful, comprehensible or backed up with facts, convince yourself and try to find out why it is not possible. Because if there is no answer, then perhaps it is possible.
4. We are NOT data protection fundamentalists. We are data protection realists!
We are data protection advocates and want to protect users. But we also understand marketers, technicians and lawyers and create a consensus with our product.
5. We are the "nice professor who takes time for his students".
We have a product that everyone needs, but hardly anyone understands. That's why we have to explain it to our customers. We take our time and explain it clearly and humorously.
